In October 2020, Mark interviewed, via zoom, one of, “The Original 9”, Rosie Casals. This in-depth conversation marks 50 years since the first Virginia Slims event. Rosie talks about life on tour in the 60’s and 70’s and explains why the women pro’s had to go it alone. Available to watch on www.actingforothers.co.uk and on their YouTube channel.

Background info:

Since he first watched Billie Jean King playing Margaret Court in a Wimbledon final on television back in 1970, Mark has been a tennis fanatic. He used to hit a ball against the wall of his childhood home, pretending to be Laver, King, Court, Connors or any of the stars he had seen.

His love and knowledge of the game led to Mark commentating at Wimbledon for BBC Radio 5 in 1990, 91 and 92. He reported for Radio Wimbledon 2009 and was commentator and reporter for Talk Radio Europe at Wimbledon in 2012. Mark is the regular Master of Ceremonies on the Ann Jones Centre Court at the Aegon Classic women’s tennis tournament each summer.  He announces the players and interviews them on court, plus providing background information on each competitor.

Mark is particularly knowledgable and enthusiastic about women’s tennis and regularly gives his talk about the history of the women’s professional tour called, “You’ve Come A Long Way Baby”. Another talk Mark gives is called “The Women Of Wimbledon”, about the female stars of yesteryear and today.

He loves to play whenever he can at the Lew Hoad Campo de Tennis in Spain and at both the David Lloyd Club and Devonshire Park in Eastbourne.
